The growing population of elders is a serious concern for our policy makers. Increasing life expentency is behind incressing elder population. As per 2011 census elder population of India was 104 million. It is expected to grow 143 million by 2021. India is second largest elder population in the world. As per an estimation the elder population will
up 25% of total population by 2050.HHHH
Rapid socio economic changes including neuclear families are also making adverse effect on our senior citizens. Govt of India has made a national policy on senior citizen keeping elder social welfare in mind. Our constitution has also guiding priciples for elders. Govt Of India and state govts has also started pension schemes, health schems and other concession schemes for elders, but the ground reality is very harsh.
Apart from increasing population there are so many factors severely affecting our elders, they are economic insecurity, insecurity of law and order, health insecurity and rising cost of medical and care facilities.
Time has come to promote such model for elders at community level which can extend security and services to the elders. DLS Elder Support Services has come out with bundle of services at every elders doorstep.

दुनिया भर के देशों में वृद्ध लोगों की बढ़ती जनसँख्या नीति निर्माताओं के लिए गहरी चिंता का विषय बन गया है !चिकित्सकीय अनुसंधान और अन्य कारणों से औसत आयु में वृद्धि के कारन वृद्ध जनसँख्या तेजी से बढ़ी है !भारत में ही 2011 की जनगणना में वरिष्ठ नागरिकों की संख्या 10 .40 करोड़ थी ! 2021 में यह संख्या बढ़ कर 14 .30 करोड़ हो जायेगी !2050 तक वरिष्ठ नागरिकों की संख्या कुल आबादी का 25 % हो जायेगी !  दुनिया में भारत दुसरे नंबर पर आता है , जहाँ सबसे अधिक वरिष्ठ नागरिक रहते हैं !तेजी से बढ़ती अर्थव्यवस्था और जीवन शैली में बदलाव के कारन संयुक्त परिवारों में हो रही टूट से एकल परिवार अस्तित्व में आ रहे हैं ! जहाँ वृद्ध व्यक्तियों के लिए कोई स्थान नहीं होता है !भारत सरकार ने इस विषय की गंभीरता को देखते हुए राष्ट्रीय वरिष्ठ नागरिक नीति बनाई है ! हमारे संविधान में भी वृद्ध जनों के लिए गाइडिंग प्रिंसिपल्स हैं !
